About Rachel Tillman

Mary Durand counselor in Milwaukee
Rachel Tillman, LPC
Life gets heavy.  There is no way around it. Even the most evolved, positive, balanced people get stuck sometimes.  Therapy can be the gift we give ourselves to become healthier, happier and unstuck!

The therapeutic relationship is one where a confidential, trusting, and supportive conversation can take place.

In therapy, you're free to be yourself, share your greatest fears and most exciting goals, as well as seek the support you need in times of difficulty, transition, and growth.

My Approach

I believe in a person centered, strength based approach to therapy.  I create a welcoming, nonjudgmental environment that helps individuals feel safe to be vulnerable.  Life can be challenging which is why I believe that we must humble ourselves and address our problems head on.

When life feels too heavy, I find that irreverent humor is one of the best antidotes.

Everyone comes to therapy for different reasons. I am driven to help clients help themselves, to find more peace, happiness, and balance.

My Background

I graduated from UW Whitewater in 2017 with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Minor in Gender and Women's Studies.  While working on my BA, I assisted in research,’ but eventually found my calling to work with people (rather than numbers!) Through both nannying every weekend, and volunteering for the Boys and Girls Club, I solidified my call to work with youth.

I earned my Master’s of Science in Community Psychology from Alverno College in 2021. During this time I also went to cosmetology school and with time behind the chair I gained even more insight into why people do what they do.  Although I had a passion for hair, my passion was always for people.

While at Alverno I interned at Advocate Aurora Psychiatric Hospital in the Child and Adolescent Day Treatment unit and was hired there to start after graduation.

After finishing my clinical hours I became a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the State of Wisconsin.

At Aurora I have worked with adolescents struggling with identity, anxiety, school avoidance, trauma, life transitions, mood disorders, and behavioral problems just to name a few. I have seen a wide range of symptoms and gained a wealth of knowledge through running group therapy sessions.

Although a group leader’s role is to listen, empower, and educate, teenages never fail to impress me with how much I can learn from them.

My Community

I live in a suburb of Milwaukee and love spending time with my family, being outdoors on walks or runs, overwatering my plants, and scrapbooking.

Although therapists make amazing support systems, it is also my belief that happiness is measured by the success of one’s relationships.  I feel extremely grateful to have the love and support of my husband, family, and amazing friends.

I would love the opportunity to work with you!
